Our story
Located in the heart of Moriyama, Shiga, Uomaru is a seafood izakaya where fresh fish and carefully selected sake meet the craft of robatayaki grilling.
Sashimi finished by skilled hands from fish delivered straight from the port, bonito from Kochi, and Omi beef from Shiga — grilled dynamically right before you over straw and charcoal.
A calm Japanese space with lively counter seats and relaxing private rooms — for dates, family dinners, and company banquets alike.
Commitment
In spring, young 2-3kg first-catch bonito; in autumn, richly fatty 4-5kg returning bonito, carefully selected by season.
Most Kochi bonito is pole-and-line caught, leaving it beautiful and undamaged. We ship our select bonito direct from the port.
We use straw hand-cut ourselves from vast contracted fields in Shiga. Dried straw burns hot with the finest smoky aroma.
Over straw flames reaching 1000 degrees, we sear a crust about 5mm into the flesh, then finish with residual heat to lock in flavor.
Cut over 1cm thick so the straw aroma fills your mouth, brimming with bonito flavor and a springy texture.
A fully sun-dried salt handmade by artisans from Kochi seawater. We select larger crystals for a mellow mineral taste.

How to enjoy Robata
How to enjoy straw-grilling and robata
The straw grilling happens on the ground floor. From the counter the flames are close at hand, and the crackle of burning straw carries to the table and terrace seats.
Take it plain first. The contrast between the smoke-wrapped surface and the moist flesh left inside is the first thing worth noticing.
Change direction halfway through the plate. Rock salt and citrus lighten the finish on straw-grilled Omi beef and on richly fatty bonito alike.
Upstairs there are three fully enclosed tatami rooms with walls and doors, each seating seven to ten guests. Out of view, you can linger over Shiga sake from dry to sweet.

Moriyama
About a 3-minute walk from JR Moriyama Station, at 14-2 Umeda-cho. On the second floor we have three fully private tatami rooms with doors and walls, each sized for 7–10 guests, usable for parties of 2 to 20.
Parties of 6 or fewer are seated in a semi-private room. All three fully private rooms are tatami, and together they take 2 to 20 guests.
We offer eight banquet courses with two hours of free-flow drinks, from 5,500 yen including tax — from the Uomaru Standard (11 dishes, 5,500 yen) to charcoal-grilled Omi duck and Omi beef, the alfonsino and clam dashi hot pot, and the Omi beef sukiyaki course at 11,000 yen.
We take full-venue bookings for 30 to 40 guests, and seated banquets for up to 50. There are 80 seats in all: tables, counter and terrace on the first floor, tatami on the second.
Families are very welcome. Smoking is separated — the first floor is non-smoking, while the second floor and terrace allow smoking — so please tell us your seating preference when you book.
The fully private tatami rooms have doors and walls, so they suit business dinners across the southern Shiga area. We build the meal around straw-grilled Omi beef from Shiga (1,690 yen / 1,859 yen incl. tax) and straw-grilled bonito sent directly from Tosa-Saga port (medium, about two portions, 1,490 yen / 1,639 yen incl. tax).
A 5% service charge applies (waived when you order a course), plus a 500 yen (before tax) otoshi seating charge. We accept cash, major credit cards and PayPay; e-money is not accepted. There is no dedicated car park, so please use a nearby coin parking. We open daily at 17:00 and close at 24:00 (food L.O. 23:00 / drinks L.O. 23:30); there is no lunch service.

Whether it's an important business dinner, a casual get-together with close friends, a family meal with children, or a special anniversary celebration, the desired atmosphere and functionality of a private room vary greatly for each occasion.
For instance, you might want a quiet conversation but can overhear the next table, or you might want to celebrate boisterously but feel conscious of other guests. The last thing you want is for your special Moriyama Banquet Course to be spoiled by choosing the wrong private room.
To meet the diverse needs of our customers, we offer various types of private rooms. However, with so many options, some may feel overwhelmed, asking, Which one should I ultimately choose? This very concern is the starting point for our Guide to Using Private Rooms. Next, we will introduce specific room types and their ideal uses.
Each of our diverse private rooms is a unique space. Every room has its own distinct charm and is suited for different occasions. Here, we'll guide you on how to choose the best private room to ensure you have an exceptional experience when you enjoy a Moriyama Banquet Course.
